Consistency of the regional response to global warming levels from CMIP5 and CORDEX projections

چکیده

Abstract Assessing the regional responses to different Global Warming Levels (GWLs; e.g. + 1.5, 2, 3 and 4 ºC) is one of most important challenges in climate change sciences since Paris Agreement goal keeping global temperature increase well below 2 °C with respect pre-industrial period. Regional warming were typically analyzed using projections from Climate Models (GCMs) and, more recently, higher resolution (RCMs) over limited regions. For instance, IPCC AR6 WGI Atlas provides results response GWLs for several variables both GCMs RCMs. These are calculated under assumption that signal consistent between nested In present study we investigate above by evaluating consistency (CMIP5) (CORDEX) projections. Robust Hadley Circulation changes and increasing global dryness due to CO2 warming from CMIP5 model projections.

In this paper, we investigate changes in the Hadley Circulation (HC) and their connections to increased global dryness (suppressed rainfall and reduced tropospheric relative humidity) under CO2 warming from Coupled Model Intercomparison Project Phase 5 (CMIP5) model projections. We find a strengthening of the HC manifested in a "deep-tropics squeeze" (DTS), i.e., a deepening and narrowing of th...

Asymmetric response of tropical cyclone activity to global warming over the North Atlantic and western North Pacific from CMIP5 model projections

Recent improvements in the theoretical understanding of the relationship between tropical cyclones (TCs) and their large-scale environments have resulted in significant improvements in the skill for forecasting TC activity at daily and seasonal time-scales. However, future changes in TC activity under a warmer climate remain uncertain, particularly in terms of TC genesis locations and subsequen...

Indian Ocean Dipole Response to Global Warming in the CMIP5 Multimodel Ensemble*

The response of the Indian Ocean dipole (IOD) mode to global warming is investigated based on simulations from phase 5 of the Coupled Model Intercomparison Project (CMIP5). In response to increased greenhouse gases, an IOD-like warming pattern appears in the equatorial Indian Ocean, with reduced (enhanced) warming in the east (west), an easterly wind trend, and thermocline shoaling in the east....
